Dear Friend of Monday Musicale,It’s November, a time when many of us give back to our community with end-of-year donations. As you plan your giving, please consider a gift to The Monday Musicale, an organization that has enriched and supported our community for more than a century.Last spring, The Monday Musicale Board of Directors undertook an ambitious campaign to raise $40,000 for the Monday Musicale Scholarship Fund. Our June concert filled the hall with members, alumni, and friends of Monday Musicale. We celebrated beloved music mentors Frances Renzi and Bonnie Ward with a program of incredible music. Together, we raised more than $26,000 for our scholarship fund.
Thank you to all who supported our campaign! Your generosity makes it possible for The Monday Musicale to impact the lives of young musicians for generations to come.Many former scholarship winners who attended our June concert shared stories about the influence of Monday Musicale on their musical journey.Pianist, pedagogical author, and educator Dr. Helen Marlais wrote, “I am thankful for the experiences I had growing up as a Junior Musicale member. Performing recitals at the Toledo Museum of Art was gratifying and motivating. Winning piano scholarships from the organization throughout my high school years made me feel confident and special in my abilities. I will always cherish these performances and educational opportunities.”Former Junior Musicale President Tierney McClure, now flute professor at DePauw University recalled, “Junior Musicale provided a great opportunity to experience and familiarize myself with the preparation required to successfully perform a solo work for an audience. The scholarships helped me fund multiple instruments that I otherwise would not have been able to afford. My family and I looked forward to the recitals every year!”

Dear Friend of Monday Musicale,On June 8, thirty-five musicians came together to perform for an enthusiastic audience at the beautiful First Presbyterian Church of Maumee. We celebrated beloved mentors Frances Renzi and Bonnie Ward and the impact they have had on countless young musicians in our region. Junior Musicale members and alums, many of them past Monday Musicale Scholarship recipients, offered heartfelt and inspiring performances.Thank you for being part of our celebration and thank you for your generous gift to our campaign. Together we have raised more than $25,000 toward our goal of $40,000 for the Monday Musicale Scholarship Fund!

About
First Monday of the Month since 1913 ...
The Monday Musicale, Inc. is a not-for-profit, educational, and charitable corporation, established in Toledo, Ohio in 1913. It was organized by a group of women musicians to encourage the development of the musical talent of its members, to stimulate community interest in music and to award scholarships to young students of music.
The founders were some of the finest teachers of musical instruments in the Toledo area. Mildred Harding, charter member, taught and performed in Toledo until her death in 1943. The Monday Musicale was named as the heir to her small estate and has funded her string scholarship since that time.Over the years, other members and their families have established scholarships… Bernice MacNab, Margaret Stone, Betty Swift, Betty Foster, Esther Gartz, Dorothy Price, Betty Burke, to name a few.Today, members, guests, and the public still gather on the first Monday of the month to enjoy fine music performed by members of The Monday Musicale and guest musicians.

Our concerts and scholarships are made possible by the support of our members. Become a member today, enjoy live music, meet music-loving neighbors, and support local student performers!
Member Benefits
Our monthly recitals offer opportunities for Active Members to perform solo and chamber music in a beautiful venue.
Our monthly recitals are a great opportunity to connect with area professional musicians and music lovers.
Members can choose to list their information in our online Music Teacher Directory (upcoming).
Our scholarship auditions are primarily open to the students of The Monday Musicale members.
Members receive advance notice of concerts and scholarship opportunities.
Members are invited to our board meetings to take part in decision making. Active and Associate members are eligible to serve as board members and committee members.
Membership Types
Active: Performing Member. Active members perform at least once a year on our Monday afternoon concerts. They are accepted by audition - typically performing as a guest on a concert, or by affirmation of our membership committee.
Associate: Non-performing Member. Associate membership is open to anyone with an interest in our mission.
Membership Fee
Membership is $25 per year and your membership fee supports our mission of providing scholarships for student musicians. It also makes a great gift!

Scholarship Auditions
High-performing young musicians in the Toledo area are invited to audition for our scholarship program. Area private music teachers may nominate up to two of their students for scholarship consideration each year. The winners are given cash awards, performance opportunities, and an invitation to become a member in our student league, Jr & Mini Musicale.
2026 Scholarship Auditions
For junior and senior high school students of piano, strings, voice, organ, winds, percussion, harp.The auditions will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2026, 2 pm - 5 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Maumee, 20 East Broadway Street, Maumee, Ohio.
How to Apply
Private music teachers may recommend up to two students for scholarship consideration by completing the attached form.
Application is free if recommending teacher is a member of The Monday Musicale. Non-members must include a $25 application fee with completed recommendation form.
Upon receipt of the application, the teacher and student will be notified of the audition time.
Send completed application to our Vice President of Scholarships, Karen Vollmer. Her mailing address and email address can be found in the PDF Application Form.
Application must be received by Friday, February 13, 2026.

Eligibility
Student must be nominated by their current private teacher.
Student may receive a scholarship once in the Junior Division and twice in the Senior Division.
Student may audition on only one instrument.
Repertoire Requirements
Two compositions: one Baroque or Classic, and one Romantic or 20th/21st Century.
Maximum 8 minutes of music.
Voice and instrumental applicants must perform with piano.
Applicant must provide their own accompanist.
Music must be memorized, with the exception that organists may use scores due to the use of registration.
Notification of Results
Applicant and their teacher will be notified of results by email.Please note: Top scholarship winners will be invited to play at The Monday Musicale Annual Spring Luncheon in May.

Jr & Mini Musicale
Jr & Mini Musicale is the student league of The Monday Musicale. Middle and high school age performers of various instruments are selected by audition to become members of Jr & Mini Musicale. These fine young musicians present three programs each year, in January, February, and March.
Jr & Mini Musicale provides an encouraging atmosphere for students to hone their musicianship skills. The program also nurtures the students’ leadership skills by providing them opportunities to plan events, manage social media and promotions, and engage with our community. Our program currently has 50 student members.
Want to Join Jr & Mini Musicale?
Auditions are required to join Jr & Mini Musicale. Auditions are usually held on the first Saturday of May. Please check back later for details.
Requirements
A teacher's recommendation is required to apply.
Middle school students (grades 5-8) must play one classical piece by memory.
High School students (grades 9-12) must play two contrasting pieces by memory.
Etudes are acceptable as a second piece.
Applicant must provide his/her accompanist.
Accompanists are not mandatory, but are helpful.
Students may audition on one or more instruments.

Dear Private Music Teachers and Jr & Mini Musicale Students,We trust that you are enjoying this beautiful autumn and looking ahead to another year of music-making with Jr & Mini Musicale! Our membership is strong, and we are grateful for each of you.As we begin our 2025-2026 recital season, three items need to be addressed. We ask that teacher and student collaborate to accomplish each one.1. Select a performance date
New to Jr & Mini Musicale is the opportunity for the student to choose a preferred performance date. Please consider which date works best for the student and their teacher: January 25, February 22 or March 22. There are limited time slots for each date. Once a recital fills, that date will close. Dues for one or two instruments are $15.00. To pay online, visit the Jr & Mini Musicale page on the Monday Musicale's website and click the yellow “donate” button. As you prepare for your Jr & Mini performance, please consider the following guidelines:• The student may play up to 8 minutes.• The student must secure an accompanist, if needed.• Music must be memorized.• Recital attire is required, and performance etiquette is expected.• Repertoire must be submitted no later than two weeks prior to the recital date.All recitals will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Maumee, 200 East Broadway St. Maumee, Ohio, at 2:00 PM on January 25, February 22, and March 22.Thank you for helping to make our season a success by paying dues and sending your information as soon as possible. Membership
Active "performing" members are accepted by audition - typically performing as a guest on a concert, or by affirmation of our membership committee. Associate "non-performing" membership is open to anyone with an interest in our mission.
Meetings
All Members are invited to participate in our meetings which take place one hour prior to our monthly concerts. All members are eligible to become officers of our organization.
Performance Opportunities
Since 1913, active members and their guests have presented free concerts at 1 PM on the first Monday of the month in October, November, December, March, & April.
Dues
$25 annual membership fee for Active and Associate members due each fall.
